Meet the Instructors

Hara Brook – department coordinator

I received my master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington in 2000. I completed the RCA/UCLES Certificate TEFLA Course in Barcelona, Spain in 1995. I enjoy traveling and have visited countries in Europe and Southeast Asia. Many years ago, I was an exchange student in Uusikaupunki, Finland. Before coming to Seattle, I lived abroad in Sendai, Japan, and Barcelona, Spain. My husband, our two children and I live in Seattle. I’ve been working at Highline since 2000. Among my other responsibilities as a faculty librarian at Highline, I am responsible for coordinating the library’s reference services.

David Adkins-Brown

I am a librarian who has worked in public and school libraries. I graduated from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business’s Management of Library and Information Science program. I have worked in Alaska school libraries, specifically at the elementary level, where I specialized in building and restructuring libraries for students and teacher needs. I was formerly the regional representative for Anchorage school librarians to the Alaska Association of School Librarians and am presently a member of ALA’s Library Leadership and Management Association. I have worked in Chinese international schools and the private education sector. I presently work in public libraries and spend my free time arguing with two corgis: Tegan and Copper.

Elizabeth Ebersole

I hold a Doctorate in Digital Education Leadership and a WA State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in School Library Media and Secondary ELA. My school library experience has spanned K-12, with the most experience in grades 6-12. I also have taught English Language Arts in grades 6-12, Social Studies in grades 6-8, and Digital Education at the graduate school level. I currently serve as a high school librarian in Seattle and as an instructor in the Highline College Library Media Endorsement program. When I’m not reading or researching, you can find me traveling the world or making something from scratch in my kitchen.

Carrie Marting

I received my master’s degree in Library Science from Indiana University and have a Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in School Library Media, Reading, ELA, and Social Studies. I’ve been a school librarian in both middle school and high school for over 10 years and particularly enjoy teaching research and media literacy units. I currently work at an independent middle school and I’m excited to also work with early career school librarians at Highline College. In my free time I enjoy reading, baking, and going on long walks with my family in interesting neighborhoods

Kaitlyn Straton
